Flower Power Cruise: Day Three

Today our ship was docked at Cozumel for the whole day.  Last time we were here, Ray and I went horseback riding.  This time we decided to take the Atlantis Submarine to see ocean life.  This is a small submarine that cruises a little more than 100 feet below the water.  Ray was surprised that I suggested we take this excursion because he knows that I don't like to be in enclosed spaces.  I could barely get through a docked submarine museum boat at Pearl Harbor.  I think the difference is that in the submarine in Hawaii I kept thinking about the people who lived in that tiny tube during World War II.  I walked quickly from one end to the other while Ray took his time looking at all of the equipment.  I just wanted out.

But The Atlantis was different.  Yes, it was a tiny tube, but there were portholes lining both sides.  There were seats in the center facing the portholes.  I was so fascinated with the ocean scene that I forgot about being 100 feet below water.  We saw all forms of ocean life; sponges, corrals, all kinds of colorful fish and a sting ray.  There was a sunken ship, a mine sweeper, that had been placed there to create an artificial corral reef.  As we passed the ship we saw a number of scuba divers exploring the area.

Little fish were swimming by the porthole.

This shows that we were 109 feet under water!

I would have loved to have spent more time exploring the ocean floor, but we had to surface to allow another group of lucky people have their turn.  As we surfaced, "We All Live in a Yellow Submarine" was played, and of course, there were forty some people singing along as we climbed the ladder to the welcoming blue sky.

Ray wanted to stop by The Three Amigos Cantina for some nachos and a margarita.  This place is modeled on the movie, "The Three Amigos".  The server suggested we pay one dollar more per drink and get a larger size.  Ray was shaking his head no, as I was saying, "Go ahead."  Ray had already ordered one of their special 'El Guapo' shots called Viva Amigos.  I should have listened to Ray.  I am not much of a drinker of alcohol, and this one was a bit much for me.  Needless to say, we retuned to the ship where I took a nap.

Neither one of us was hungry so instead of going to dinner for a big meal, we went to the buffet and got something light to eat.  On our way back to our cabin I heard Beatle music, so we walked down six flights of stairs to where the Beatle's tribute band, Brit Beat, was  playing.  They were great.  There was even some man portraying Ed Sullivan who announced some of their songs.

The evening ended (for us) with a Blood, Sweat, and Tears concert. Bo Bice was superb in singing the lead. He sounded like David Clayton Thomas but delivered the songs in his own style. I had forgotten how much I like their music.  Ray got to hear me sing along 'You Make Me So Very Happy'....a song I sing often to him.

There is still much to do tonight, but I am going to bed before midnight for a change.  Tomorrow has even more activities, concerts and fun.  Here are a few pictures from the last couple of days.

Flower Power Cruise: Day Two

Today we are at sea!  This is good because we were up so late last night after a busy day and it was nice to sleep a bit later.  We ordered breakfast from room service so that we could have a quiet breakfast on the deck.  Our deck is great.  We had never had a cabin in the stern of the ship and decided to try it this time.  The deck is huge.  We have a table, four chairs, two foot stools and a small table for drinks.

Our View.  We love it!

This is our deck

Before I get to what we did today, I have to write a little about the concert we saw last night.  Peter Noone from Herman's Hermits gave a fantastic concert!   Is this man really 67 years old?  When he came on stage his high energy was catching.  He barely took a breath between songs and was continually doing dance steps.  About half way through he began singing songs made famous by other artists....like "Ring of Fire" by Johnny Cash. The amazing part is that he sounded just like Johnny Cash. I even watched his mouth carefully to see if he was just mouthing Cash's song, but no, he was really singing it.  Some of the others he sang were, "Bus Stop" by the Hollies, "Ferry Cross the Mersey" by Gerry and the Pacemakers, "I'm Telling You Now" by Freddie and the Dreamers,(and he and the rest of his band actually did 'The Freddie'), and then he did the Mick Jagger strut to "Jumpin' Jack Flash" by the Rolling Stones.  He had the whole crowd singing and we all wished the concert would last longer.  Here is a short clip of Peter Noone doing the Mick Jagger strut.

After breakfast we saw "Three Days of Peace and Music".  This was a presentation about Woodstock.  ( I know, most of you could probably have figured that out.)  They had short clips of all of the acts at Woodstock and would tell a brief history of certain bands and artists.

After that, we changed into our Flower Power T-Shirts and headed for the pool to join the BeatleBrunch T-shirt Party with Abbey Road on the River Artist, The Jukebox.  This place was crowded, s,ome dancing to the music, others swimming and sun bathing.  The band was amazing.  I almost felt like it was 1966 when I attended a real Beatle concert.  The big difference was that I could actually hear the band.  No screaming teeny boppers were heard, but lots of singing along and cheering.

It was so hot on deck that I was glad to return to my room to write part of my blog.  I don't like to be out in the sun for too long and was grateful that there were some shady spots to get some relief from the sun.  Here are a few pictures of the adult flower children re-enacting the 1960s.

This is Tracy. He was kind enough to let me take his picture.  He said he thought only a few other guys on the cruise had hair as long as his.  Thanks, Tracy!

It was a busy day!   I can't write about all of the events we attended today in this post.  It will have to be another time.  But, here is the list.  "Remembering the Impact of the British Invasion. (This was a Q&A with Peter Noone, Peter Asher and Micky Dolenz.)  We did not have time to go to dinner so we did room service again.  That gave us time to go to the Peter Asher concert.  ( I will write about that later....it was wonderful!)  The last event was a concert: Jefferson Starship.  What a way to end the day!
